Oxford Harlequins made hard work of their 17-3 home victory over Newton Abbot.
Quins scored two tries, but saw a number of other chances go begging.
Newton Abbot led with a penalty from full back Mike Saxton.
Quins hit back on 11 minutes when centre Martin Nutt scythed through the defence to convert his own try.
Lock Alan Purchase, hooker James Clarke and flanker Tim Knapp all impresssed for Quins, while the visitors had prop Danny Porte sin-binned on 37 minutes.
Nutt slotted a penalty on the stroke of half-time, having missed two earlier attempts.
A period of uncontested scrums ensued when Abbot’s replacement prop Nick Hammond was yellow-carded on 44 minutes.
Nutt fed wing Huw Jones to finish a fine team move for try No 2, which the former converted from the touchline.
Abbot fly half Andy Birkett was yellow-carded on the hour mark.
Quins’ fly half Joey Todd came on for his debut to become the first player to represent the club at all age groups from under seven upwards.
